Millennium India Education Foundation, due to Dr. Kakroo’s history has always been a proponent of promoting Kashmiri roots and culture in places where Kashmiri Pandits settled after their shift from the valley due to the conflict situation which peaked in 1990.
After shifting to Noida, Dr Uday Kakroo and Mrs. Rashmi Kakroo compiled and edited a Noida circle directory of Kashmiri Pandits who were in Noida. This was published by MIEF and distributed free of cost in the community. The funding for the printing and distribution was carried on with the help of interested parties who advertised in the print publication of through donations.
Apart from the directory, Vitasta also carried information on Kashmiri language, literature, gotras, meaning and basis of different surnames, nicknames etc. The last version of the magazine was published in 2008. Vitasta was received very well, and MIEF had requests for more such directories and demand for these was usually very high. While there was an aim to publish the whole directory “online”, privacy concerns prevailed and then Facebook happened 🙂 !
However, we are glad that our website is open now and anyone can connect with friends and interested personnel through Facebook, Twitter and the blog here! MIEF is always ready to facilitate in case you needed more help in establishing community wide connections or talk about culture.
Let’s stay connected!
