India, with a population of 1.2 billion produces over 55 million tonnes of solid waste annually. A large part of this waste infact is textile waste that often goes into landfills. Landfills release methane that contributes to global warming. This apart from the dyes and chemicals in fabrics that can also lead into contaminating ground water and land surface.
