In an article called “Recognizing the value of kindness in healthcare“, written by Dr. Gary Greensweig (D.O., Dignity Health, San Francisco), there have been some interesting findings. They are results of a survey commissioned by Dignity Health from Wakefield Research. Here are some of the findings of the research:

1. 87% of Americans feel that kind treatment by a physician is more important than other key considerations in choosing a health care provider.

2. 64% have experienced unkind behavior in a health care setting including failure to connect on a personal level (38%), staff rudeness (36%) and poor listening skills (35%)

3. 75% of survey respondents indicated they would be willing to pay more to visit health care providers that practiced kindness

4. 88% said they would be willing to travel farther to receive kinder care

Kindness in healthcare has two ways to go. If not just nice, it is certainly good business!

Just reading this statistics makes us wonder, these are just as true anywhere and not limited to the US, certainly from our own experience. We only talked about kindness in healthcare, but you can see it happening at every interface in daily life, isn’t it?

We hope you start this week with some random act of kindness especially on a  colourful day like Holi and make your days ahead brighter and more beautiful! We are inspired 🙂
